The Yaris, Toyota’s new small car for Europe will be easy to own and cost-effective to run thanks to a host of innovative new servicing initiatives announced ahead of the car’s public launch on April 8 1999.

Early research conducted by Toyota on potential Yaris customers delivered a clear message: they wanted “Complete peace of mind at the most competitive price.” Toyota has responded with the following servicing programmes that make Yaris easy and cost effective to own and live with.

Yaris Servicing Schedule

Major service intervals at 20,000miles/2 years. 30-minute safety, oil and filter ‘Health Checks’ at one-year/10,000 miles.

Simpler, cheaper servicing for Yaris customers has been a primary consideration in the European designed Yaris from day one of its inception. Yaris requires 45 per cent less labour time (over three years/60,000 miles) than the current Starlet model, which it supersedes. Overall maintenance costs (including tyres and brakes) are reduced by 25-30 per cent. This all means cheaper servicing costs and greater convenience for Yaris customers.

Technological advances and improved maintenance processes on Yaris have enabled major services to be set at a lengthy two years or 20,000 miles. The advanced 1.0-litre 16v engine with ‘first-in-class’ variable valve timing features maintenance free valve lifters, maintenance free direct ignition (no distributor), 40,000 mile spark plug changes using normal plugs and a maintenance free timing chain (no cam belt change needed). The Yaris torsion beam rear suspension also features a toe correcting function which optimises tyre life.

In between major services, Yaris customers are only required to have an oil and oil filter change at 10,000 miles, when their dealer will also give the car a free ‘Health Check’ for safety items including lights, fluid levels, tyres and brakes. The advanced Yaris engine has been designed to use cheaper mineral grade oil instead of the more expensive semi and fully synthetic oils that some rivals manufacturers insist upon.

Yaris Easy Care

Peace of mind two or three year servicing for Yaris.

Capitalising on the low maintenance needs of Yaris, Easy Care is a stand alone two or three-year servicing plan for Yaris sold separately from the vehicle. For a one-off payment ranging in price from £140 for a two year plan to £220 for a three year plan, Easy Care covers major services, oil and filter changes and replacement parts costs meaning any unlikely unbudgeted surprises are catered for.

Yaris Replacement Parts Costs

Cheaper than the rivals and fixed for one year.

Yaris explodes the myth the Toyota genuine replacement parts are expensive and unlike other manufacturers, Toyota (GB) Ltd operates a policy of fixing its parts prices for one year.

Taking a basket of common parts including oil filter, air filter, front brake pads, and four spark plugs, Yaris works out to be 64% cheaper than the Peugeot 106, 46%

cheaper than the Ford Ka, 22% cheaper than the SEAT Arosa, 23% cheaper than the VW Polo, and 16% cheaper than the Vauxhall Corsa.

Taking the cost of those parts typically damaged in a front end accident, Yaris works out to be 57% cheaper than the VW Polo, 49% cheaper than the Peugeot 106, 46% cheaper than the Nissan Micra, 45% cheaper than the SEAT Arosa, 34% cheaper than the Vauxhall Corsa, 24% cheaper than the Renault Clio and 1% cheaper than the Ford Ka.

For those parts which require replacing in a typical rear end accident, the story is even stronger with Yaris being as much as 91-34% cheaper than the cars listed above.

Yaris will come with a free 3-year/60,000 manufacturer’s warranty, which covers the clutch, alternator, starter motor and exhaust system amongst other major mechanical items.

Yaris comes with a 12-year anti-corrosion perforation warranty. Additionally, three years’ Eurocover will come as standard with Yaris providing roadside rescue, breakdown and accident management services in most European countries.
