Toyota Land Cruiser Colorado Voted 4X4 of the Year

The new Toyota Land Cruiser Colorado D-4D diesel has been elected ‘4×4 of the year, 2001’ by 4×4 Magazine in France. A jury composed of readers and journalists declared the Toyota tops after very thorough tests in the rough, desert terrain of southern Morocco.

The very coveted award is now in its 17th consecutive year and this latest triumph celebrates Toyota’s off road prowess for the sixth time since 1988, including victories in 1996, 1998 and 1999.

The three finalists: Toyota Land Cruiser Colorado D-4D, Mitsubishi Shogun and Nissan Patrol had been pre-selected by the readers of 4×4 Magazine from the 18 new or revised vehicles that have entered the French market since July 1999. The Land Cruiser Colorado D-4D was singled out for its solidity, dynamism and agility.

The Toyota Land Cruiser range celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2001. Over 3.7 million Land Cruisers have been sold to date, 1.2 million units more than all Land Rovers sold since their introduction. These figures do not include sales of Toyota’s other 4×4 sensation, the RAV4, nor any pick-ups or other Toyota 4×4 SUVs.

As a key supplier to the United Nations across the globe and in markets such as Africa, Indonesia, and the Middle East, Land Cruiser is the preferred choice of those whose lives depend on it. In Australia over 75 per cent of SUVs sold are Toyotas.
