TOYOTA YARIS D-4D CONTINUED SALES SUCCESS AND LOW COST OF OWNERSHIP

  • Over 1,100 Yaris and Yaris Verso D-4D models sold since March 2002
  • Over 3,500 predicted Yaris diesel sales for 2002
  • Extended service intervals and low running costs
  • Competitive replacement crash parts mean lower insurance
  • Up to 27 per cent cheaper on maintenance and parts replacement compared to its closest rivals
  • Range of over 650 miles attainable from low combined fuel consumption of 67.3mpg for Yaris S and Yaris GS (D-4D three door)
  • Petrol-like performance from D-4D direct injection common rail diesel engines
  • 1.4 D-4D complies with Euro step III emissions and has a CO2 figure of 113g/km for Yaris S and Yaris GS three door, 117g/km for other Yaris models and 133g/km for Yaris Verso
  • 1.4 D-4D is the seventh diesel engine currently offered by Toyota, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of diesel engines
  • Three year/60,000 mile mechanical warranty and 12 year anti-corrosion warranty

The new Yaris D-4D continues the low cost of ownership trend from Toyota at a time of unprecedented growth in the UK diesel market. Sales of the Yaris D-4D since its launch in March have exceeded expectations with year to date sales at over 1,100 units to the end of July.

Yaris D-4D sales made up approximately eight per cent of all Yaris sales for the month of July just under the segment average of 9.9 per cent. Toyota expects to sell around 3,500 Yaris and Yaris Verso D-4D models in 2002. The diesel market in the small car segment has grown by 36.8 per cent year to date compared to last year. Toyota expects to see continuing popularity of diesel engines in this sector with 2003 being the first full year sales for Yaris D-4D.

Toyota, recognising that competitive maintenance and crash parts costs are as vital as a high standard specification in the diesel supermini market, places the Yaris in a commanding position. Toyota Yaris D-4D represents low running costs and excellent drivability for both retail and fleet customers.

The introduction of the new 1.4 D-4D engine adds a modern, fuel-efficient and fun to drive common rail diesel engine to its top selling Yaris model range, offering lower emissions, better fuel economy and extended service intervals in line with the VVT-i engine models. Add in low service and repair parts costs, and the Yaris D-4D is a class leader in terms of economy and overall running costs.

The introduction of the 1.4-litre direct injection common rail diesel engine brings a boost to the successful J.D. Power and Associates 2002 UK Car Customer Satisfaction Study’s top ranking car, taking the Toyota Yaris into the growing supermini diesel segment.

COMPETITIVE SERVICE AND CRASH REPAIR PARTS PRICING

Toyota Yaris D-4D has excellent cost of maintenance parts up to 80 per cent less than one of its main competitors, the Fiat Punto 1.9JTD, 66 per cent less than the Peugeot 206 1.4HDi 68bhp and almost 30 per cent cheaper than the Vauxhall Corsa 1.7DTi, (refer to table overleaf).

Replacement crash parts costs are significantly cheaper for the Yaris D-4D compared to many of its contemporaries, which in turn allows for low insurance groups of 3E-4E.

The front crash replacement parts on the Yaris D-4D cost over 40 per cent less than the equivalent Renault Clio and a staggering 50 per cent less than the new Ford Fiesta 1.4 diesel Zetec. After a frontal impact crash, front replacement parts on the new Fiesta 1.4 Diesel Zetec would cost £768 and £729 for the Renault Clio compared to £509 on the Yaris D-4D. Likewise front crash parts are a considerable 30 per cent more for a Citroën Saxo and 27 per cent more for the Fiat Punto and 20 per cent more for the Peugeot 206.

Overall replacement parts for Yaris diesel are more cost effective than its closest rivals at 40 per cent less than the Renault Clio, and around 20 per cent less than the new Ford Fiesta, Citroën Saxo and Fiat Punto.

NB Information correct at July 2002

Toyota Yaris boasts very good all-round equipment levels compared to its competitors with ABS with Electronic Brake force Distribution, twin airbags (driver only on S model) and electric front windows all fitted as standard (manual on S model) – optional on some competitors listed above.

The Toyota Yaris is over eight per cent better priced than the Peugeot 206 and over six per cent better priced than the equivalent Vauxhall Corsa. Even the new Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi five door and the new VW Polo 1.9 SDI E would need more than £300 worth of specification to equal the Yaris standard equipment levels.
