Safety Success At The Double For Toyota

30 April 2003

Following the Toyota Avensis “best-ever” score in the EuroNCAP crash test, Toyota Manufacturing UK has collected a second prestigious safety accolade in recognition of its industry-leading safe working environment.

The car manufacturer, based in Burnaston, Derbyshire and Deeside, North Wales, has been awarded the MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY SECTOR title from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in its Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2003.

RoSPA, one of the world’s leading safety organisations, has recognised the company as having the best health & safety performance within the UK’s entire manufacturing sector.

In making the awards RoSPA considers both proactive and reactive health and safety activities along with accident performance in all UK companies.

This year Toyota Manufacturing UK demonstrated a range of safety measures including the safe introduction of the new Avensis, continued reduction of musculo-skeletal disorders and a range of vehicle and pedestrian safety activities throughout its UK plants.

The latest award represents a hat trick of top safety titles that the company has received from RoSPA in successive years.

In 2001 & 2002 Toyota Manufacturing UK received the ENGINEERING INDUSTRY SECTOR title and in 2001 went on to collect RoSPA’s premier occupational health and safety award – Sir George Earle Trophy –judged across all industry sectors.

Bryan Jackson, Deputy Managing Director, said, “For Toyota Manufacturing UK good health and safety is good business. The award from RoSPA once again recognises that our Members (employees) are committed to the achievement of high levels of performance in this crucial area and that as a company we have good safety management systems in place.”
