Toyota Fleet Reduced By 56 Tonnes

22 December 2006

Toyota (GB) PLC is turning its fleet team green by giving them Toyota Prius company cars. A saving of 56 tonnes of CO2 is achieved because Prius produces one tonne less CO2 than the best D-segment diesels on the market*. With 28 staff involved covering an average of 25,000 miles per year, this works out at two tonnes saved per vehicle, per year.

The fleet team involved comprises; six regional fleet sales managers, 11 fleet business development managers, six regional business centre managers, three contract hire and leasing managers plus Tim Copland General Manager and Kevin Ledgar National Fleet Marketing Manager. Half are already in Toyota Prius, the remainder will be changing in early 2007.

Toyota Fleet, headed by Copland, operates throughout the UK and provides support and advice to company fleet managers and contract hire and leasing companies, for both cars and commercial vehicles. Toyota Fleet is also supported by its own dedicated telephone line and web site accessible via www.toyota.co.uk.

“Although new generation Prius was launched in 2004, due to supply restrictions and the rapid growth in popularity of the model, it is only now that sufficient vehicles are available to allow us to make this step with our team,” said Copland. “We are doing what we can to reduce our carbon footprint and have also calculated this change will reduce the fleet team fuel bill by more than £17,000.”
