From Clydebank to Monte Carlo – Yaris provides hero drive

9 February 2012

A Toyota Yaris provided by Helensburgh Toyota has proved to be the perfect vehicle for reporter Andrew Gibson and photographer Stewart Robertson from the Clydebank Post to take part in the grueling Monte Carlo rally.  Starting last week from Clydebank College through to Monte Carlo the journey, in aid of Help For Heroes Campaign, covered 1,300 miles and took them through the Alps.

After the newspaper came up with the idea of participating, Helensburgh Toyota were more than keen to support this event. They provided Andrew and Stewart with a Yaris, making it stand out by wrapping it in the appropriate camouflage style.

The 1.33-litre Yaris was able to cope through the challenges the route threw at them and on their way home they stopped by the Toyota (GB) (TGB) headquarters in Epsom, Surrey. Last year, the TGB Fund for A Better Tomorrow was launched to encourage and support financially, community projects Toyota and Lexus retailers and their staff are involved with.  Helensburgh Toyota, which is very active in its local community, had applied to Toyota (GB) to support the event. Andrew and Stewart were presented with a cheque for £2,175 by Thomas Rosselle, Manager for Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Affairs to add to the £1,904 they had already raised.

Presenting the cheque, Rosselle said, “The Clydebank to Monte Carlo Challenge is a remarkable example of what can be achieved when local businesses such as Clydebank Post and Helensburgh Toyota team up together to support a cause that matters a lot to their community.  We have established the TGB Fund precisely to encourage such activities at local level and we are delighted with the outcome.”

Commenting on their achievement Gibson said, “The satellite navigation proved to be an absolute godsend when we were driving through the Alps in very bad weather and roads all around us were being closed. It was able to re-route us each time until we reached our destination. The Yaris coped admirably during the heavy snowfalls we experienced.”

Gary Mulvaney Helensburgh Toyota Director said; ”We are delighted to play our part in the great historic event. As a local business, we are always keen to support our community and felt that with such a large number of forces and their families in our area we should do something.”
