KEY POINTS

  • Toyota presents three new design studies at Geneva motor show
  • Auris Touring Sports Black
  • RAV4 Premium
  • RAV4 Adventure

Toyota’s Geneva motor show presentation includes three new design studies based on its new Auris Touring Sports and RAV4 models, each created to amplify different aspects of the cars’ styling and capabilities.

Auris Touring Sports Black, with a striking black and red colour theme inside and out, has been developed to show how Toyota’s new compact estate car goes beyond functionality to offer striking looks and desirable quality.

Where the new, fourth generation RAV4 is concerned, the Premium and Adventure design concepts emphasise respectively, the compact SUV’s high quality and rugged off-road character.

Auris Touring Sports Black

The new, British-built Auris Touring Sports is an attention-grabbing newcomer to the compact estate car market with its class-leading functionality and segment-unique option of full hybrid power. Its dynamic, contemporary Toyota design, load capacity of up to 1,658 litres and CO2 emissions from a tax-busting 85g/km it sets standards for ease of use and ownership costs.

Heralding the new model’s arrival this spring, Toyota has created the Auris Touring Sports Black design study, enhancing the car’s appearance inside and out and demonstrating how an estate/wagon body style can be much more than simply functional.

The exterior design is highlighted by a new Night Sky black metallic paint finish. This contrasts with red 19-inch alloy wheels, red inserts on the front and rear bumpers and an eye-catching red trim on the front grille. The car’s ‘Sports’ element is expressed in twin chrome exhaust pipes and dark tinted rear LED lights. Piano black roof rails and privacy glass add extra premium quality.

The signature colour scheme carries through to the cabin where black leather and double red stitching feature on the steering wheel, door panels, dashboard, sports seats, gear shift lever and handbrake. Red is the feature colour for the instrument panel illumination and the finish on the air vents and cup holders. The cabin also gains high quality carpeting and exclusive sports seats upholstered in black leather and perforated red Alcantara. Alcantara is also used to cover the interior pillars and for the roof lining.

RAV4 Premium

The RAV4 Premium design study has been developed to give the new model added sophistication. Both the bodywork and bumpers are finished in Deep Bronze to increase the sense of harmony in the design. At the front a central grille displays horizontal lines and air intakes, while the LED lights are underscored by a stylish chrome-finished spoiler. At the rear the redesigned bumper gains chrome inserts, brushed aluminium skid plates and an integrated tailpipe design. The 20-inch alloys are matched to the aluminium roof rails to add coherency to the look.

Toyota’s Kansei design department, part of its R&D operation in Brussels, was responsible for the luxurious leather upholstery in the cabin. New black piping and a V-shaped outline reinforce the design of the seats, and the use of two-tone double stitching in several areas expresses both robustness and premium quality. Grey and black leather are also used for the instrument and door panels.

RAV4 Adventure

The design thinking behind the RAV4 Adventure is to accentuate the car’s look to reinforce its off-road capabilities.

A striking dark red paint brings out the strong, athletic qualities of the third generation RAV4’s exterior, its muscular appearance heightened by the addition of extended wheel arches that accommodate larger 20-inch alloy wheels.

The front and rear bumpers have been redesigned and finished with matt paint. At the front the bumper integrates with a new under-run, while at the rear the redesign allows for fully integrated twin exhaust pipes and a reworked skid place.

Machined roof rails and dark-tinted privacy glass complete the Adventure look.
