Toyota Dreams The Dream With Custom Specials At SEMA

7 November 2013

Everyday Toyota models have been transformed into petrolhead dreams at the 2013 SEMA show in Las Vegas this week, the world’s largest gathering for the after-market and customisation business. And when it comes to the “hottest compact ride,” the GT86 – alias the US-branded Scion FR-S – has retained the title it earned on its 2012 debut, as voted for by industry experts at the show.

The judges certainly had plenty to whet their appetite, as four specially kitted and tuned coupes are on display, ranging from a racing prototype packing more than 750bhp to a music-themed version originated by star DJ and producer Steve Aoki.

SEMA also marks the culmination of Toyota’s Dream Build Challenge, in which US sports stars worked with tuning and design teams to create their ideal adventure vehicle. The winner, announced yesterday by US Top Gear host Rutledge Wood, is the Let’s Go Moto Tundra, a reworking of the giant Toyota truck that’s kitted out with a self-contained motocross pit lane, complete with power washer, data monitors, spare part racks and a helmet dryer. Justin and Josh worked with Joe Gibbs Racing and custom specialists N-FAB to take their concept from the drawing board to the metal.

Proving how any Toyota has the potential for a high-impact makeover, the challenge entries also included an ultra-rugged interpretation of the Corolla saloon, a rally-themed Camry and a 4Runner SUV designed for freestyle skiers.
