TOYOTA HONOURED AS THE “GREENEST” FLEET CAR MANUFACTURER IN THE 2019 GREENFLEET AWARDS

Toyota has reinforced its industry-leading environmental credentials with the title of Fleet Car Manufacturer of the Year in the 2019 GREENFLEET awards.

It emerged the winner in one of the hardest-fought categories in the competition, rewarded both for its impressive range of alternative fuel vehicles – hybrid-electric, plug-in hybrid-electric and, in the form of Mirai, fuel cell-electric models – and for its wider commitment to the environment throughout its global business.

GREENFLEET’s judges evaluated models released in the past 12 months, their environmental credentials and their impact on and use within the fleet sector. Activities linked to ultra-low emissions vehicles (ULEV) and green initiatives, such as internal and external awareness-raising campaigns, were also taken into account, together with the way manufacturers actively promoted their vehicles and technologies.

Colin Boynton, GREENFLEET Event Manager, said: “This was the most competitive manufacturer category of them all this year. Toyota, this year’s winner, produces the UK’s largest range of alternative fuel vehicles, consisting of 20 models – a range that accounts for a staggering 50 per cent of the country’s alternatively fuelled car market. 2019 saw yet more hybrid models released for fleet managers to choose from and their use of innovative technology, with ultra-modern styling, combined with a truly green policy that runs through the entire DNA of the company, means that they are worthy winners of the 2019 Fleet Car Manufacturer of the Year.”

In 2019, Toyota has added four new self-charging hybrid models to its UK range: the new RAV4 and Camry, the British-built Corolla and, most recently, the revised C-HR. The latter two models mark a further development of Toyota’s hybrid vehicle strategy, being the first on the market to offer the customers the choice of two hybrid powertrains with different power outputs but equally impressive efficiency.

Beyond the products it sells, Toyota is also committed to reducing the environmental impact of all its operations worldwide, setting out ambitious targets for carbon reduction in the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050.

Stuart Ferma, General Manager Toyota and Lexus Fleet Services, said: “This award is another welcome seal of approval for what we’re offering our business customers – an ever-wider choice of models and powertrains that deliver genuine quality, value and environmental performance. Toyota has more than 20 years’ experience in hybrid technology, so our customers can be assured the vehicle they choose will be reliable and durable, as well as economical to run and maintain.”
