TOYOTA TO PARTNER WORLD PARA ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS AND IAAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS LONDON 2017

Toyota is proud to support two of this year’s leading global sports events as a national partner of the World Para Athletics Championships and an official partner of the IAAF World Championships. Both are taking place at London Stadium, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this summer.

Toyota’s involvement demonstrates its ambitions for cleaner mobility for all, represented by an extensive fleet of petrol-electric hybrid vehicles as chauffeur transport for the athletes and a leading role for Mirai, the world’s first zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell saloon, as lead and timing car for the Marathon and the timing points for the race walks which will take place on the streets of Central London.

The events
The World Para Athletics Championship begin this Friday (14 July) and continue until 23 July. They will be followed by the IAAF World Championships from 4 to 13 August, bringing more than 2,000 of the world’s best athletes to the UK capital. The many thousands of spectators visiting the park will be able to learn more about Toyota and its ground-breaking vehicle technologies at its stand in the Hero Village.

Keeping athletes on the move
Toyota is supplying a fleet of 132 largely petrol-electric hybrid vehicles, with drivers, to take athletes wherever they need to be during their time at the championships. The quiet and efficient hybrid technology will mean lower emissions and fuel use, particularly in slow-moving traffic where the vehicles have the potential to run emissions-free on their electric power alone.

Mirai timing car
The Toyota Mirai will lead the competitors in the men’s and women’s marathons and race walks as the official timing car. Powered by Toyota’s hydrogen fuel cell system, the car will produce no harmful emissions – in fact the only emission will be pure water, a by-product of the fuel cell’s power generation process.

Women’s world record award (IAAF only)
As part of Toyota’s commitment to furthering investment in and support for women in sport, it is once again sponsoring the bibs worn by all the female competitors during the IAAF World Championships. It is also providing a cash prize fund that will reward any woman who breaks a world record during those championships.
