Toyota to encourage ‘scrappers’ to buy British-built cars

Toyota’s British-built Auris hatchback will be a highly attractive option for customers taking advantage of the new Government scrappage scheme.

Taking into account the £2,000 allowance announced by the Government in today’s Budget, Toyota will structure its incentives and finance packages to make Auris, built at Toyota’s Burnaston plant in Derbyshire, a highly attractive choice for those customers brought unexpectedly into the new car market by the scheme. A private contract hire offer is just one cost effective option the company is preparing.

“While Toyota has some of the best small cars on the market in the shape of Aygo and Yaris,” said Toyota Managing Director, Miguel Fonseca, “we recognise that small cars do not meet the needs of everyone in terms of space and practicality.

“By leveraging the benefits of local production we can make Auris affordable for customers who need a family car. I am also very keen to use this incentive as much as possible to the benefit of British workers,” said Fonseca.

Thanks to Toyota Optimal Drive technology across the range, Auris offers excellent fuel consumption, thereby minimising the impact of the fuel duty rise. Toyota’s legendary reliability and low service and maintenance costs also keep ownership bills down and increase the car’s appeal to drivers changing from older models.

Full details on how the scheme will work on Auris and Toyota’s other models will be announced shortly.
