Leasing Companies Vote Toyota Top For Reliability For Second Consecutive Year In FN50 Survey

8 November 2002

Leasing company fleets covering nearly half a million vehicles voted Toyota top for reliability for the second consecutive year in the Fleet News FN50 survey, revealed today.

Toyota was judged to have the best reputation for reliability in the survey, which is one of the most in-depth surveys in the industry. This is the second year running that research for the FN50 has included a request for the 50 largest leasing companies to reveal their reliability record-holders according to the number of breakdowns they suffered.

Only multi-marque leasing company figures have been included and they cover the most reliable cars according to the lowest number of breakdowns per 100 models on their fleet. These vehicles are hard working business tools typically covering 20,000 miles a year.

Commenting on Toyota’s success in the FN50 Reliability Survey, Jon Pollock General Manager for Toyota Fleet said: “Yet again this is great recognition from the fleet industry for the reliability of Toyota products. We now offer the widest range of products in the UK and this added accolade clearly indicates to fleet managers what a credible choice Toyota is for their fleet.”

Toyota Fleet sales for 2002 are predicted at 40,000. Fleet sales have enjoyed huge success this year, which can largely be attributed to the successful launch of new Corolla and the uptake of Yaris by the core fleet market with its new fuel efficient and fun-to-drive common rail diesel engine. This sales success has been supported by the continued interest in the current UK-built Avensis model and pleasing growth with niche models such as RAV4.

Yaris D-4D was introduced at a time of unprecedented growth in the UK diesel market, which plays an important role in the fleet market. Toyota now offers the widest range of diesel engines in the UK – 10 models in total – which has also supported the excellent sales this year for Toyota Fleet.

Toyota’s top spot in the FN50 Reliability Survey is another resounding vote of confidence from Toyota drivers following several other reliability and customer satisfaction accolades awarded in 2002. JD Power & Associates Customer Satisfaction Survey awarded Yaris the Silver Award while Corolla and Celica also won their segments. Toyota also received the Driver Power Award from Auto Express.
