You’ll Never Be Lost Again With Toyota’s Improved Satellite Navigation And Electronic Traffic Avoidance System

4 November 2002

Almost 10,000 hotels, 4,000 restaurants and 11,000 petrol stations covering the length and breadth of Britain mean that Toyota customers need never be lost again with the improved satellite navigation and Electronic Traffic Avoidance (ETA) system.

The Electronic Traffic Avoidance system now covers more roads than ever before including more ‘A’ roads and all major motorways. The improved satellite navigation system covers Northern Ireland for the first time with detailed street coverage for Belfast city centre.

The changes to the ETA system are designed for ease of use with improved road network coverage. There are three major improvements to the system:

  • Traffic incidents sorted by junction

Previously the incidents were listed as they occurred so to some users it would appear they were in random order. Traffic incidents are now sorted by junction number making the information easier to search through

  • Direction added to some messages

When a motorway exit is closed the current system reports a message such as “M25, At J25, exit closed”. This is ambiguous because the driver doesn’t know if it is the clockwise or anti-clockwise carriage that is affected. To remove any confusion messages now include direction information so Toyota drivers can be told “M25, At J25, clockwise exit closed.”

  • Bi-directional information has been added

The new software adds additional information to clarify that both directions or only one direction is affected by contraflows or weather related incidents.

Toyota Corolla customers who bought their vehicle with optional satellite navigation and ETA from January 2002 will automatically by offered a replacement disc at no cost.

Toyota Avensis GS, GLS and CDX models have had ETA fitted as standard since January this year and customers have the option to purchase a new disc at a discounted price.

Sat nav with ETA is now available as an option on 2003 model Celica for £1,250, ETA will also become available on other Toyota models in the future.
