Toyota At The Birmingham Motor Show

30 April 2004

Key points

  • UK debut of the revised Toyota Corolla
  • Full line-up of current Toyota models, including the all-new Corolla Verso and the Celica and MR2 Roadster Red Collection
  • Opportunity for visitors to try the legendary Toyota Land Cruiser in the rough in the 4×4 Challenge

The Toyota stand at The Sunday Times Motor Show Live will present the latest chapter in the story of the world’s favourite car. The Corolla – more than 28 million sales and still going strong – will be making its first UK appearance in a revised version that offers increased youth appeal and enhanced safety and equipment specifications across the range.

The new British-built Corolla will be presented ahead of UK sales starting in the summer.

The complete Toyota UK model range will be on view with the all-new Toyota Corolla Verso, on sale from 1 May, also in the spotlight. Setting new standards all round in the compact MPV sector, the new Verso boasts the unique Toyota Easy Flat-7 system by which all five rear seats fold easily on to the vehicle floor to create a perfectly flat and versatile load area.

Other key exhibits will be the new special edition Celica and MR2 Roadster Red Collection models and the new Toyota Prius, the world’s cleanest production car.

The display will also focus on some of the high technology features which have become synonymous with Toyota’s cutting edge approach to in-car entertainment and communications, including seatback-mounted screens for DVD and computer games playing, Bluetooth connectivity for mobile telephones and an advanced DVD-based satellite navigation system with full map display.

Toyota models will not just be sitting beneath the spotlights looking great. For the first time at a British motor show, visitors will be able to climb behind the wheel and find out what they are like to drive, too, on a demanding off-road course. Toyota Land Cruisers, famous the world over for their exceptional performance in the toughest conditions, will be demonstrating what makes them so special in the show’s 4×4 Challenge.

Senior executives and the press and public affairs team from Toyota (GB) PLC will be on hand throughout the show’s press day on Tuesday, 25 May. The Toyota stand is number 8-110 in Hall 8 of the National Exhibition Centre.
