Toyota Expands UK Training Facilities

19 February 2013

To provide the specialist training necessary to service and maintain its wide and technologically advanced range of vehicles, Toyota (GB) is expanding its training facilities. The two new sites include a new base in the South East of England at the Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME) located at Rainham inEssex, and a further facility in the South West of England at the site of its distribution centre in Portbury near Bristol.

The Portbury facility is operational from this month and the move to CEME takes place on 1 April. Toyota has installed dedicated facilities including vehicle ramps, workshops, training rooms, with the latest diagnostic equipment to train Toyota and Lexus Centres located across the country.  The new venues support existing training facilities in Nottingham(Training Academy),Scotland(Edinburgh College) and Northern Ireland(Ballymena College) and provide regional support which reduces downtime for both Centre networks.

Toyota and Lexus combined has one of the most diverse model line-ups in the market today, from the Toyota Aygo to the Lexus LS 600h and models in-between including 4×4, hybrid and Plug-in hybrid technologies.

Jon Williams Toyota (GB) Managing Director said; “We are investing in these facilities to train our network to the highest standards to meet our quality and people development commitments for the future.  Our customers expect the highest standard of technical support from their dealers.”

Bill Williams, CEME Chief Executive Officer said: “We are delighted to welcome Toyota and Lexus to CEME where we are able to offer them world-class training facilities.  CEME has strong links to the automotive industry and the reputation both Toyota and Lexus have as world leaders in car technology fits perfectly with our plans to become a world renowned hub of technical learning and expertise.”

CEME, established in 2003, is a world-class research, skills, education and business campus in East London focusing on supporting the engineering, manufacturing and technology sector.  CEME is unique in linking education to business helping to improve the skills of business employees and students and support the growth of business and skills in the local economy.
