Toyota Gazoo Racing’s (TGR’s) latest projects enhance its current models and fosters a passion for motorsports while returning to the roots of its commitment to make ever-better cars through its race and rally activities.

Since its founding in 2007, TGR has followed a philosophy of taking vehicles to extremes in motorsport environments where technologies are tested to breaking point and team members cultivate a mindset of collaboration and problem solving. From its origins at the Nürburgring, TGR has taken this philosophy to the global stage, winning world championships in rallying, endurance racing and rally-raids; last year it delivered another hat-trick of FIA manufacturers’ titles.

For 2025, TGR is applying its uncompromising approach to even more spectacular challenges. Its vision for taking technology and people further will be applied to new projects which push the limits for better.

When Akio Toyoda – AKA Master Driver Morizo – and his driving mentor, Master Driver Hiromu Naruse, created Gazoo Racing in 2007, they chose the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race as the best proving ground for their philosophy that “roads build people, and people build cars”. After a six-year break, TGR will return to the Nürburgring in 2025 and unite for the first time with Rookie Racing, a private team established to make ever-better cars and develop human resources through the skills and dedication of different drivers. The two organisations will compete as Toyota Gazoo Rookie Racing (TGRR) in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS), the Nürburgring 24 Hours and the Super Taikyu series in Japan.

TGRR will compete with a GR Yaris fitted with the new Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT). This system, which delivers ultra-fast downshifts to allow the driver focus more closely on steering braking and acceleration, will be further refined through the rigours of competition.

Meanwhile, the mid-engined GR Yaris M Concept is equipped with an under-development, 2.0-litre, in-line four-cylinder turbocharged engine. This new unit pushes the limits of performance and efficiency with very compact dimensions helping produce a low centre of gravity. By using a midship layout – the engine is installed in the middle of the vehicle – the car can reap benefits in terms of weight distribution and centre of gravity, which allow for sharper cornering. Through intensive testing in the 2025 Super Taikyu series, TGRR aims to implement “driver-first” car-making, in which vehicles are repeatedly driven to breaking point, then repaired in the heat of competition, incorporating feedback from the drivers.

The GR Yaris Aero Package is another concept born on the racetrack and applied to making ever-better cars. The “driver-first” approach has contributed to this concept featuring high-performance aerodynamic updates that also add to the car’s eye-catching looks.

The package includes a manually adjustable rear wing, allowing the driver to modify downforce levels by changing the wing angle according to the driving circumstances. Striking new air ducts in the wings behind the front wheels give the car a grippier feel. Aerodynamic performance is further optimised by additional vents on the lower sides of the rear bumper, creating an airflow from the rear wheel housings. A motorsports-style vent on the bonnet improves cooling. As well as the aero elements, the package also includes a vertical handbrake.

While TGR continues to explore technologies and redefine performance with the GR Yaris in motorsports, the current generation GR Supra reaches its ultimate expression with the A90 Final Edition*. This special version offers a blend of power, agility and precision, enhanced by a range of motorsports-inspired modifications. Powertrain updates have increased output from 335bhp/340 DIN hp/250kW to 435bhp/441 DIN hp/324kW, and torque from 500Nm to 571 Nm. This brings faster acceleration response and increases the maximum speed by 20km to 270km/h (168mph). Cornering performance can be pushed to the limit from the new carbon fibre driver’s seat, thanks to improvements including KW suspension with adjustable damping force, more direct steering, new 19-inch Brembo drilled brakes and wider, high-grip tyres.

Through its car development activities, TGR aims to contribute towards potential solutions for carbon-neutral mobility and a sustainable and exciting future for motorsports. It is advancing alternative powertrains and fuels through competition, supporting Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy, which helps customers reduce emissions, wherever they live. All TGR’s world championship programmes compete using sustainable fuels, with 100 per cent renewable biofuels used by the GR Yaris Rally1 in World Rally and the GR010 Hybrid in World Endurance. Even on the gruelling Dakar Rally, TGR has introduced a fuel with 70 per cent renewable components via its partnership with Repsol.

Building on the innovations introduced by Rookie Racing with the GR Corolla H2 race car and its hydrogen engine, TGR has also showcased a potential hydrogen future in rally and racing by creating the GR Yaris H2 and GR H2 Racing Concept prototypes.

In 2025, TGR will continue its commitment to developing people and technologies in motorsports, further expressing its philosophy of making ever-better cars via exciting challenges and a driver-first approach.
