The all-new Toyota Proace Max combines powerful load carrying and class-leading capacity with efficient driving and a bold, robust design.
As Toyota’s first large-sized commercial van in Europe, Proace Max joins the updated Proace and Proace City in a comprehensive Toyota Professional portfolio of commercial vehicles.
A new battery electric powertrain brings responsive driving, ride comfort and high-capacity haulage in a variety of vehicle configurations suitable for any task, without sacrificing practicality or reliability.
The battery electric Proace Max completes a fully electrified Proace family of vans and people carriers, emphasising Toyota’s multi-pathway approach towards carbon neutrality. Toyota believes that all customers, including those purchasing vehicles for commercial use, need a variety of affordable and practical options to accelerate the pace of CO2 reduction now, and contribute to a transition to zero emission mobility in the future.
As well as impressive performance, the Proace Max boasts a striking exterior design, centred on a new front face. This features a stylish upper element matching the vehicle colour.
Versatility with exceptional load capacity
The new Proace Max is available in a wide range of dimensions so customers can choose a size that’s best for their needs. Specialist requirements can be addressed with a wide range of conversion possibilities.
In the UK, four different sizes are available in full van format, based on two wheelbase options (3,450 and 4,035mm), three different lengths (5,413, 5,998 and 6,363mm) and two heights (2,524 and 2,764mm). These combinations offer spacious cargo area volume from 11 to 17m³, space enough to comfortably hold five Euro pallets.
In addition to the full van offerings, Proace Max is an adaptable companion for specialised tasks. It is available in factory-built one-way tipper and dropside configurations, and in Crew Cab form with a second row of four seats to increase seating capacity to seven.
Vehicle weights are 3,500kg for the diesel and 4,250kg for the battery electric models. All variants have impressive load-carrying and towing capacities. The battery electric Proace Max leads its class with 1,800kg payload capacity and 2,000kg towing capability, depending on the model size configuration. With diesel vehicles, payloads of up to 2,270kg can be carried; maximum towing capacity is 3,000kg (depending on the combination of length and height).
Loading and unloading is straightforward thanks to full height doors and a practical square opening, 1,562mm wide and up to 2,030 mm high, with a low threshold. UK models are fitted with double sliding side doors, maximising loading convenience.
Powertrains
A high-performance battery electric powertrain brings the power, comfort, and cost efficiency of EV driving to the new Proace Max.
An effortless drive with the smooth, comfortable ride typical of an EV is achieved thanks to 268bhp/272 DIN hp/200 kW of power combined with the confidence a maximum 410Nm of torque, helping the van take the toughest jobs in its stride.
With a driving range of up to 261 miles (WTLP standard), the fully electric Proace Max has enough range for practical day-to-day operations. Three driving modes allow the driver to adjust acceleration and top speed via Eco, Normal and Power pre-sets to achieve the right balance between performance and driving range for the tasks in hand.
When the high-performance 110kWh battery requires more energy, it can be recharged to 80 per cent in as little as 55 minutes via a fast-charging system of up to 150kW, helping minimise downtime on long journeys. An 11kW AC onboard charger is provided for convenient charging using business or home systems.
Alternatively, an efficient and low-emission Euro 6E-compliant diesel engine is available with six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, offering 138bhp/140 DIN hp/103 kW.
Both electric and diesel versions are exclusively offered in front-wheel drive format, in common with the large majority of sales in the large commercial van sector.
Customisation and accessories
The hardworking Proace Max is also available in body-on-frame format giving customers the freedom to create bespoke vehicles that meet their business needs.
Both Platform Cab, with a flat rear deck, and Chassis Cab, with an exposed ladder frame, are available in the standard 5,943mm length. A Crew Cab option provides additional seating. The battery electric powertrain is offered in all except the longer Platform Cab variant.
An extensive accessory list focuses on interior protection, load carrying and security. Interior items include floor, wheel arch and side panel coverings in wood or polypropylene to protect the vehicle from wear and tear during loading and unloading. Attachment rails and cargo straps are available for securing load items.
Additional storage space can be added with a roof platform or roof rack, accessed via a ladder on the rear door. Inside the load space, a racking kit includes floor, frames and shelves.
Toyota Smart Connect
High grade models are equipped with Toyota’s latest multimedia platform, which provides more powerful computing power, faster response, more intuitive operation and new functions.
A 10-inch high-definition touchscreen is easy to read in different lighting conditions, with a clean, clear and simple interface and an embedded SIM card for constant connection.
Navigation is connected to cloud services to ensure always-on route finding with up-to-the minute information on traffic events via the community feedback-based Live Road Events feature.
Wireless smartphone connectivity is possible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition, via the connected services smartphone application, owners can remotely control features such as locking and unlocking the car, as well as onboard climate controls.
The accompanying MyToyota smartphone app gives customers access to additional connected services and useful information about the vehicle, including data about mileage, speed and acceleration, as well as maintenance schedule reminders.
European production
The new Proace Max represents a deeper collaboration between Toyota Motor Europe and Stellantis. Established in 2012, this relationship allows both companies to benefit from development and production cost optimisation. Stellantis’s plants in Gliwice, Poland and Atessa, Italy will produce the Proace Max, which will be available to customers in 2024.
