Fast, Versatile And Very Clever: The New Toyota Oekaki Renaissance
A state-of-the-art sewing machine is the latest Toyota-branded model in the UK
Weaving technology is where it all began for Toyota back in the 19th century and today textile equipment remains an important part of its manufacturing portfolio, as witnessed in its advanced sewing machines. The latest addition to the range is the sleek Oekaki Renaissance, distributed in the UK by Aisin Europe.
With its curvaceous styling and choice of bright colour finishes, it has plenty of eye-appeal, while Toyota engineering gives it advanced capabilities for creating free-motion embroidery. This technology lets the user create designs directly on the fabric – ideal for giving clothes or home furnishings a personal finishing touch.
Like the latest Toyota hybrid vehicles, the Oekaki Renaissance has different, selectable operating modes. In the case of the sewing machine, in its “normal” mode the machine can use a unique “Super Jeans” function that is strong enough to pierce through and glide effortlessly over up to 12 layers of denim.
In the feature “Oekaki” mode, (a Japanese word meaning ‘to draw’), the foot pedal automatically moves from stitch speed to stitch width control, allowing the user to ‘paint’ their design with stitchwork, making the fabric a canvas where you can let your imagination run free to create beautiful designs.
Toyota has been making sewing machines since 1946 and the first model was developed under the personal guidance of Kiichiro Toyoda, the founder of Toyota Motor Corporation. The Toyota Oekaki Renaissance is available now, with a recommended retail price of £399.
