The all-new Toyota Camry will have its worldwide motor show debut at the IAA in Frankfurt on 11 September. The previous model was the best selling saloon car in the USA for four consecutive years. Although selling in much smaller numbers in the UK, Camry has been a ‘sleeper hit’ with many executive class buyers who prize refinement and quality.
Toyota’s flagship saloon, the new Camry is a completely new design that builds on the model’s long standing attributes of class leading comfort and refinement. The new car will also offer buyers a carefully engineered balance of ride, comfort and performance.
Inside the new Camry, driver and passengers will discover almost seven per cent more interior space, higher levels of interior quality and executive class features. Low noise levels and a world-class safety system complete the customer cosseting package.
Camry offers a choice of two powerful petrol engines. The 2.4-litre engine uses Toyota’s Variable Valve Timing-intelligent (VVT-i) technology to boost low speed torque and improve fuel consumption. Top speed is 130mph and acceleration takes
just 9.4 seconds for the manual version. Despite its performance, the Camry 2.4 leads its segment in terms of fuel consumption, with an excellent 32.8mpg on the European combined cycle.
The 3.0-litre V6 engine offers optimum performance and smooth acceleration. Top speed is 140mph and 0-62mph takes no more than 9.1 seconds. Fuel consumption is 25.7mpg on the European combined cycle.
The 2.4 engine comes with either a five-speed manual gearbox or an electronically controlled four-speed automatic gearbox. The 3.0-litre engine is available with an automatic gearbox only.
Dual stage SRS airbags are standard equipment for driver and passenger, as are side-airbags. SRS curtain shield airbags help protect the heads of both front and rear seat passengers.
The brake-system offers ABS, electronic brake force distribution and brake assist as standard features. Five three-point seatbelts are provided for all occupants. The front seats come with pre-tensioners and force-limiters, the rear seats offer ISO-FIX mountings for safer installation of child seats.
Equipment levels include a full multi-information display, rain-sensitive automatic windscreen wipers and automatic climate control, amongst many other features.
Camry’s combination of excellent driving dynamics, strong quality and purposeful looks are expected to increase Toyota’s share of this demanding market. The new Camry will go on sale in the UK in November, full pricing and specification will be confirmed in the near future.
