ALL NEW TOYOTA COMMERCIAL VEHICLE RANGE
November 2001 brings the launch of an all-new Toyota commercial vehicle range with the introduction of a light truck known as Dyna 300/350. In addition, the Hilux Pick-up and Hiace van get a fresh new look and improved specification. All Toyota commercial vehicles are now fitted with 2.5-litre D-4D direct injection common rail turbo diesel engines for more power and better fuel consumption.
The new Dyna truck takes Toyota into the 3,000-3,500kg Gross Vehicle Weight market for the first time and is available in well proven Dropside and Chassis Cab and spacious cab design. Over the next year a dedicated Commercial Vehicle Dealer Network of 80 dealerships will be rolled out across the UK to offer specialist support for the expanding range to Toyota’s commercial vehicle customers.
ADVANCED D-4D DIESEL ENGINES FOR NEW TOYOTA COMMERCIAL RANGE
The new commercial vehicle range is offered with new advanced Toyota D-4D direct injection, turbocharged, common rail diesel engines with a choice of power outputs, either 88bhp or 102bhp. The new engines will provide users with more power, more performance and reduced fuel consumption.
Both these engines offer outstanding economy and reliability in typical, tough working environments. At the same time they offer the other benefits of Toyota’s advanced, common rail technology – low noise, instant starting and low emissions levels. Both engines comply with European Step III emissions legislation.
REDUCED COST OF OWNERSHIP
The adoption of common rail diesel engines, with an advanced engine oil maintenance management system, allows the introduction of extended oil maintenance/health check intervals of 10,000 miles with major service intervals at 20,000 miles in line with Toyota VVT-i passenger cars. The combination of reduced fuel consumption and extended service intervals will result in significantly reduced cost of ownership.
NEW DYNA
The Dyna truck is a chassis cab design that has been on sale in Japan, Europe and overseas since the 1970s. The new vehicle, on sale in the UK for the first time, retains the practical and versatile cab-forward design of the existing model but is easier to use, more pleasurable to drive, quieter, more fuel efficient and more comfortable. The latest offering provides the benefit of a new cab and all new D-4D direct injection 16v common rail diesel engine.
The model line up is named to reflect the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of the Dyna models 300 and 350 (the GVW is 3,000kg and 3,500kg respectively). The range starts with the Dyna 300 dropside equipped with 2.5-litre D-4D diesel engine with 88bhp in five-speed manual. The Dyna 350, on sale from January 2002, is available with 2.5-litre D-4D diesel engine with 102bhp also in five-speed manual in either medium or long wheelbase. The 350 model will be available with approved Toyota body builders in either dropside, box van or tipper body style with three-year warranty.

Full Safety Features
The new Dyna truck cabin structure was designed to help protect the occupants from impact while the front doors have side impact beams to absorb impact energy.
In addition, the new Dyna truck has an impressive range of safety equipment as standard including a driver’s SRS airbag and seatbelts with pretensioners, to help reduce the risk of chest and upper body injury, full three-point ELR seatbelts for driver and nearside passenger with two-point belts for centre passenger.
Modern, Spacious Cab
The distinctive cab-forward design offers a number of practical and operational advantages ranging from increased load carrying length to easier access to the engine. Cab forward light trucks offer a longer load length for the same overall length than their ‘semi-bonnet’ design rivals.
The high forward position of the cab ensures better driver visibility and improves passive safety, especially in city traffic or limited space operating conditions. At the same time, the forward placement of the cab means better weight distribution over the axles when the vehicle is fully laden.
Driver and Passenger Comfort
Inside the cab, the new Dyna truck has placed great emphasis on features, comfort, convenience and ease of operation. A range of features were designed to minimise fatigue on long trips and during the working day including:
- Spacious cab allowing three adults to sit with ample room
- Driver’s seat slides and reclines for a comfortable driving position
- Fully adjustable steering column tilts for most comfortable setting
- Speed sensitive power steering
- Main instrumentation has been designed for maximum clarit
HILUX PICK-UP
Building on this strong image, the popular Toyota Hilux pick-up range is now available with a host of new features such as a fresh, sporty face, improved interior comfort and convenience; and a choice of advanced technology, common rail diesel engines.
The 2002 model range comprises a choice of the all-new 2.5-litre direct injection common rail D-4D diesel engine with either 88bhp or 102bhp. The entry-level model is the 240 Single Cab Pick-up with two-wheel drive with 88bhp. This is followed by the all-new 2WD 240 Extra Cab Pick-up FX, also with 88bhp, but with high level of equipment and specification such as air conditioning.
For the first time, all other models now feature automatic selectable two or four-wheel drive with high and low ratio transfer boxes. This new feature will prove useful, especially in harsh weather conditions, as it replaces the need to manually adjust the 4WD settings.
The entry-level four-wheel drive model is the 4WD 250 Single Cab Pick-up EX with 102bhp. This is followed by the 4WD 270 Double Cab Pick-up EX with 102bhp. The high specification 4WD Double Cab GX featuring 102bhp will be available from February 2002. A VX grade, available for the first time on Double Cab, joins the range with added specification of alloy wheels, ABS brakes and overfenders over the wide wheel arch.
NB Hilux pricing is currently unavailable.
HIACE VAN
Renowned for its quality, economy and easy driving style, Hiace van is a popular choice in the light commercial market. Building on this strong reputation, the Hiace is to be launched with a fresh new face, improvements to interior specification and a choice of advanced technology, common rail diesel engines.
The new model range carries over the existing Standard Wheel Base (SWB) and Long Wheel Base (LWB) models with either swing out rear doors or tailgate and one or two side doors.
The 2002 model range comprises the entry-level model the S grade 280, 88bhp, with swing out rear doors. This is followed by the S grade 300, 88bhp, also with swing out rear doors. The popular GS grade comprises the 280, 88bhp, and the 300, 102bhp, with either tailgate or swing out rear doors. The GS grade 300, 102bhp, has two side doors.
A new high grade GLS model, replaces the previous 74bhp GX grade and comes with tailgate full bulkhead and one side door. The 2.7-litre petrol engine with 141bhp is still available on the GLS grade, replacing the GX, with tailgate and one side door. This derivative is only available to special order. A full bulkhead is standard on all GS swing out rear door models and also on all GS 300 versions.
