The all-new Proace Max goes on sale in the UK today, Toyota’s first heavy-duty van. Its introduction completes a comprehensive Toyota Professional line-up of light commercial vehicles, with competitive models in all the principal market segments. Moreover, like its Proace and Proace City counterparts, Proace Max offers the option of battery electric power.
Battery electric and diesel powertrains
Proace Max is offered with the choice of battery electric or diesel powertrains.
The BEV system demonstrates Toyota’s commitment to electrification of its light commercial vehicle range and its multi-path technology strategy for progressing towards carbon neutrality.
It produces 200kW (268bhp/270 DIN hp) and 410Nm or torque and has an official (WLTP) standard driving range of up to 260 miles. This allows the vehicle to be used for urban daily delivery schedules potentially without the need for overnight changing.
The driver can select from three modes to adjust performance to optimise driving range or power. Further energy efficiency is provided by a regenerative braking system.
The 110kWh lithium-ion battery can be recharged to 80 per cent in 55 minutes with a 150kW fast-charging system. All versions are equipped with an on-board 11kWh AC onboard charger for business or home charging.
The diesel engine option is a 2.2-litre 140 unit producing a maximum 138bhp (103kW/140 DIN hp). Six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission can be specified, giving maximum torque of 350Nm and 280Nm respectively. Gross vehicle weight for all diesel versions is 3.5 tonnes; GVW is 4.25 tonnes for the electric models, which qualify for Government funded grant support towards the purchase cost.
Size and space
Across the range, Proace Max is offered in four combinations of length and height, giving load capacity from 11.5 to 17m3.

Conversions and more
Proace Max provides a wealth of conversion and specialist use possibilities. Factory-produced models include chassis cab and platform cab, together with one-way tipper and dropside bodies.
Equipment specification
At launch there is a single equipment grade, Icon, offering a generous array of features for practicality, safety, comfort and connectivity. Key items include a multimedia system with 10-inch touchscreen and navigation and a digital instrument cluster. Automatic air conditioning, automatic headlights with automatic high beam, a reversing camera and rear parking sensors are also provided.
Owners can adapt their vehicle to suit their specific business needs with a dedicated range of accessories, including racking and shelving systems, high-security locks and a roof platform with rear ladder.
All Proace Max panel vans are ply-lined as standard but this can be deleted on request, with a commensurate reduction in the vehicle’s on-the-road price.
