Sanish Shah, from Reading, wins prize in the global final of the Toyota Dream Car Art competition

Sanish Shah, aged seven, from Reading, has won a prize in the global final of the 2023 Toyota Dream Car Art competition, with his design of a ‘Food Fairy’ vehicle.

Having already won a gold award in the under-eight category of the UK heat of the contest, Sanish’s entry was judged against other award winners from around the world.  He received a Best Finalist prize, receiving US$3,000 (£2,408* at today’s exchange rate) that he can spend on educational purposes, plus a framed certificate. 

Sanish’s ‘Food Fairy’ is a flying car made from recycled materials that collects used food and shares it with those less fortunate.

Creativity clearly runs in Sanish’s family, as his brother Virat won the silver award in the under-eight category of the UK competition.

This year’s competition attracted 780,000 entries from 90 countries. The aim of the contest is to inspire and encourage young people to think about future mobility and how it might help people and the planet. The competition final took place in Japan where the judges included Toyota Motor Corporation representatives and independent art experts and automotive specialists.  They remarked on how the artworks illustrated issues that children worldwide are concerned about, such as care of the elderly, and of the environment, and revealed the kind of mobility they envisage for the future.

Sanish commented: “The Dream car contest gave me the chance to not only think about community but also design something useful like Food Fairy. I’d like to invest my prize money in a way that can be helpful to my future education. I find science and mathematics particularly interesting so that’s what I’d like to focus on.”
