Take two: double success for the UK’s Toyota Corolla in the What Car? Awards – again

23 January 2025
  • Toyota Corolla retains its two new car titles in the 2025 What Car? Awards
  • Corolla Hatchback is the Family Car of the Year
  • Corolla Touring Sports wins the Best Value Estate Car of the Year award
  • Both models built in Britain by Toyota Manufacturing UK

One year on and the Toyota Corolla remains the undisputed champion of family motoring in the UK with both the Hatchback and the Touring Sports versions of Corolla repeating their success in the prestigious What Car? Awards. The Toyota hybrids have retained their respective titles of Family Car of the Year and Best Value Estate.

Announced at an awards ceremony in London this evening, the honours reaffirm Corolla as one of the greats of motoring history, a model nameplate that’s appeared on well in excess of 50 million cars around the world across seven decades.

They also reflect excellence in British manufacturing, being produced by Toyota Manufacturing UK at its Burnaston car plant in Derbyshire and powered by hybrid engines assembled at TMUK Deeside in North Wales.

Announcing the awards, Steve Huntingford, What Car? Editor, said: “The Corolla is well priced and delivers remarkable real-world fuel economy. However, nothing shouts ‘economy’ when you sit inside it, because Toyota has used high-quality materials and the standard of assembly is excellent. Ride comfort also impresses, while the steering is well weighted and the handling composed.”

Turning to the Corolla Touring Sports, he added: “”The Corolla Touring Sports is a unique and convincing proposition in the estate class, offering exceptionally low running costs, great resale values and lots of standard equipment for a very attractive price.”

Stuart Sanders, Director, Communications and Product Toyota (GB), said: “These awards demonstrate the genuine quality and value our Corolla hybrids are delivering at the heart of the new car market. As key players in our multi-path technology approach to ultimately achieving zero carbon, they provide high quality, accessible and practical options to help people to reduce their carbon footprint and make the transition to electrified mobility.”
