All-new Yaris Hybrid arrives
The all-new, fourth generation Toyota Yaris Hybrid has arrived, marking a step-up in dynamic performance, electrified driving capabilities and eye-catching style. The first model to be built on Toyota’s new GA-B platform, it is designed to be the world’s safest small car, with new features including centre airbags between driver and front passenger, and a system to help guard against common accident risks when making a turn in front of oncoming traffic. Power to the pick-up
A powerful new 2.8-litre engine is being added to the Toyota Hilux pick-up range as part of a model upgrade that’s also ushering in beefier styling and new equipment features. The top-of-the range Invincible and Invincible X models can now be ordered with the 201bhp unit, which musters an extra 100Nm of torque compared to the established 2.4-litre block. Where handling is concerned, a new automatic limited-slip differential is available and improvements have been made to the suspension set-up. Extra equipment features (according to model grade) include parking sensors, new-design alloys and a nine-speaker premium JBL sound system, plus Toyota Safety Sense active safety features as standard. RAV4 Black Edition
A new version of the Toyota RAV4 is being introduced in October with an all-black finish inside and out. The new Black Edition takes black to the max, including its 19-inch alloys, bumpers, grille, skid plates and upholstery. Read more here.
Toyota backs Bristol car-share business
Toyota is providing a fleet of 25 self-charging Yaris Hybrid models for the expansion of a car-sharing business in Bristol. The vehicles are being offered to users through hiyacar’s car-sharing scheme, building on a successful partnership established with Toyota in London. The initiative reflects Toyota’s transition from car maker to mobility provider. Read more here.
Conway’s championship bid back on track
Toyota Gazoo Racing were back in action at Belgium’s Spa circuit following the enforced break in the FIA World Endurance Championship. A one-two result in the six-hour race has strengthened British driver Mike Conway’s bid to take the driver’s championship title alongside his No7 Toyota TS050 team-mates. Read more here.
Sunshine states
Toyota’s environmental challenge to eliminate carbon emissions from its global operations has received a boost with investment in large-scale solar arrays for three of its North American production centres. The installations, like those already in use at the Toyota plants in Derbyshire and North Wales, will be able cut factory CO2 emissions by more than 4,000 tonnes a year. Read more here.
Perfecting Proace
Toyota has announced changes to its Proace van and Proace Verso people-carrier ranges. The new 2021 line-up of medium-duty panel vans comes with the clever space-maximising Smart Cargo system as standard, while the MPV gains satnav across the board, plus other equipment upgrades. Read more here.
Mirai makes a date in NE England
Haskel Hydrogen Systems is the latest UK business to take delivery of a Toyota Mirai. The hydrogen-fuelled, zero emissions saloon is being used by the Sunderland-based business to help showcase its hydrogen refuelling technology and reduce its carbon footprint. Read more here.
