How many hybrids?
If it’s Yaris Hybrid you’re counting, the answer is 200,000 and rising, as Toyota’s Valenciennes plant in northern France marks a milestone in the car’s production history. Hybrids now make up 40 per cent of all the superminis built at the factory.
Tokyo show concepts
Toyota has a gathered a formidable array of new concept cars ready for their world debut at the Tokyo motor show later this month. The line-up includes a new small sports car, a fuel cell vehicle that can also serve as a community electricity generator and a hot-rod style car in which the mechanical elements are the focal point of the design. Look no hands!
Imagine a car that takes car of all the driving from the moment you drive on to a motorway to the moment you reach your exit. Toyota has been road-testing just such automated driving technologies in Japan and hopes to bring some of them to market by the end of the decade. Read more here.
Tick-tock-Tacoma
The Toyota Tacoma – a close relation of our Hilux – is America’s best-selling pick-up in its class, so the all-new model rightly deserves a full-on launch, supported by a high-impact ad video. “Play Now” is the tag-line, so you might want to do just that.
(Brand) value added
As a global business, Toyota’s value is unmatched in the motoring world and is right up there with Google, Coca-Cola and Apple when it comes to brand value. That’s the finding of the latest annual report from international analysts Interbrand, which gives Toyota the top auto ranking for the fourth year running. Read more here.
