New Camry countdown
Camry has been America’s best-selling car for 15 years, so anticipation is high for the new 2018 model that’s heading for North American dealership later this summer. Toyota promises an evolution in the eighth generation model from a dependable and “safe” car to one that’s more exciting and emotional in character. Read more here.
Aygo goes summer-smart with new x-claim
Aygo has added a seasonal special at the top of its range, the new x-claim. It’s primed for the time of the year with a fully retracting (electric) red canvas Funroof, plus White Flash bodywork and Burgundy decals. The same colour theme is picked up in the cabin trim and upholstery, too. Read more here.
Virtual world of motorsport safety
Physical crash test dummies can’t reveal much about the internal injuries people can suffer in a road accident, so Toyota’s virtual human modelling – THUMS – has proved invaluable in helping design effective safety measures for new cars. Now the technology is being used to explore how racing cars can be made safer, too. Read more here.
Toyota invests in autonomous/connected vehicle safety research
Toyota is investing $35 million in a new five-year programme at its Collaborative Safety Research Centre in Michigan, USA. The work will focus on maintaining and developing safety standards in the transition to future autonomous/connected vehicles. Read more here.
Toyota C-HR making mischief
The Toyota C-HR is being launched in the USA this summer with a mischief-themed marketing campaign, including re-working of crafty character from traditional fairy stories, such as Cinderella and The Gingerbread Man, and a collaboration with YouTube star Bad Lip Reader.
Virtual power plant demo
Toyota is taking part in a joint project to demonstrate the potential of a “virtual power plant,” aiming to achieve local production and use of renewable energy, bringing tougher multiple user-side energy resources to function as if they were single entity. Read more here.
