Toyota Prius Avoids Higher London Congestion Charge
Toyota Prius drivers are set to save even more money as the London Congestion Charge daily rate rises from £5 to £8 on 4 July 2005.
Prius is exempt from the London Congestion Charge and this rise in the daily rate now presents a potential saving total of £2,000 per annum.
The Prius is exempt from the charge thanks to its environmentally friendly, advanced engine technology.
The four-door saloon is a hybrid vehicle, using a combination of a conventional 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 50kW electric motor. On the open road, power is derived from both sources, but on start-up, when stationary and in slow moving traffic, the Prius switches to its electric motor. In this mode, exhaust emissions are reduced to zero.
Toyota Prius is the 2005 European Car of the Year.
The world’s cleanest family car has experienced exceptional global demand, with worldwide sales exceeding well over 300,000 since the first generation Prius was launched in Japan in 1997.
Toyota expects to sell over 3,500 Prius in the UK this year, more than doubling the 1,588 units sold in 2004.
On the road prices for Prius start at £17,545.
