Toyota Reinforces its Foundations for Future Growth
Toyota shared its programme for reinforcing the foundations of its operations to prepare for future growth at an executive meeting with media representatives this evening, on the eve of the Paris Motor Show.
First, quality, durability and reliability, which have always been at the heart of Toyota, will remain central to the company’s firm commitment to its customers.
Second, for more than 20 years, Toyota has developed, improved and democratised its self-charging hybrid technology, amassing more than two million hybrid vehicle sales in Europe to date. Hybrid technology is, and will remain, Toyota’s key differentiating technology.
In the first eight months of this year, hybrid models accounted for 46 per cent of Toyota new car sales in Europe, and 59 per cent of the total in Western Europe. This is a higher proportion than in any other region in the world.
Toyota is exhibiting only hybrid vehicles at the Paris Motor Show, from the compact Yaris to the new generations of Corolla and RAV4 and the all-new Camry that will be introduced in Europe next year.
Third, together with hybrid technology, the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) forms the solid basis of Toyota’s new products and powertrains. More than a vehicle platform concept, TNGA is an engineering and design philosophy that delivers opportunities for more emotional styling and excellent driving dynamics.
Toyota remains confident of increasing its sales and the hybrid mix towards its 2020 targets: one million Toyota and 100,000 Lexus annual sales with a hybrid mix of more than 50 per cent, while further improving its financial performance.
At the same time, Toyota is preparing for the automotive industry entering a once-in-a-century transformation. Toyota Connected Europe, established in April this year, will steadily and progressively provide connectivity and mobility services in Europe to offer ever-better mobility for all.
Johan van Zyl, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe, said: “QDR, hybrid and TNGA are the three foundations that will underpin our future growth. They are enabling us to develop the more emotionally engaging new models that you will see on the Toyota stand at the Paris Motor Show. Reinforcing these foundations keeps us on track for sustainable growth. We forecast increases in sales, hybrid mix and profits in 2018 as we progress towards our 2020 targets.
