Toyota Star City Remains Open
Toyota’s Star City dealer in Birmingham remains open to the public, operated by Toyota GB staff, to minimise any disruption to its customers. This move follows the announcement at the beginning of the week that the Hamer Group, which ran the Star City dealership and another Toyota outlet in Tamworth, went into receivership.
The Star City facility is owned by Toyota (GB) PLC. A mixture of Toyota GB staff, staff from other Toyota dealers in the West Midlands area and agency staff have “manned the pumps” and are keeping the doors open. And a good job they’re doing too, taking new orders from customers in the run up to the big new car market this March.
New and existing customers, and especially those with new cars on order before Hamer closed, will be handled by the Toyota staff at the dealer, ensuring that customers will suffer as little as possible from the collapse of the Hamer group*.
“We are doing our utmost to provide a good service for Star City’s customers. However, we are looking for a partner to take over the running of the Star City dealership as soon as possible,” commented Jason Stanley, normally Toyota’s area manager for Birmingham, currently acting dealership manager for Star City.
