Toyota wins 2024 World Rally-Raid Championship manufacturers’ title

14 October 2024

A strong finish on the season-ending Rally of Morocco saw Toyota clinch the manufacturers’ title in the 2024 FIA World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC).

The event, which concluded on Friday (11 October), also saw Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Lucas Moraes finish in third place in the driver’s championship, a remarkable achievement in his first full season in the series driving the Toyota GR DKR Hilux T1+. The team wrapped up a challenging but ultimately rewarding rally with Moraes and teammate Seth Quintero putting in strong performances in the final stage.

The concluding Stage 5 was a 170-mile timed special over gravel tracks and sand, with tricky navigation and fast driving required throughout. Moraes and co-driver Armand Monleon had an eventful run, catching Nasser Al-Attiyah early in the stage and eventually running alongside Sébastien Loeb to finish the day in fourth place. He gained valuable experience in his first appearance on the rally that will be valuable as preparations shift towards next January’s Dakar Rally. He completed the rally in 14th place overall, having earlier lost considerable time during the third stage.

Quintero, with navigator Dennis Zenz, completed the stage in second place. Despite a few mechanical setbacks during the event, he consistently fought back and finished fifth overall.

The Rally of Morocco proved to be highly demanding for both Toyota Gazoo Racing crews, but the team can reflect on an impressive campaign in which Moraes demonstrated his potential as one of the top drivers in the championship. He ended the season 62 points behind the leader, but his performance in multiple events, including a Stage 2 victory in Morocco, demonstrated his growing confidence and skill. Quintero finished the year in sixth place overall and remains a key competitor with potential to do well in future rallies.
