What Car? Award for the all-conquering Land Cruiser Commercial

26 March 2026

The Land Cruiser Commercial has powered its way to victory in the 2026 What Car? Van Awards, taking the title of the UK’s best car-derived van.

The model is the result of a conversion programme developed by Toyota at its UK car plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire. Vehicles are delivered with the back seats removed and are fitted out with interior steel panel inserts, a full-height metal bulkhead with a mesh top section and a completely flat van floor with non-slip rubber mat to transform it into highly capable van that has all the quality reliability and durability that have made Land Cruiser a global legend.

Announcing the award today, What Car? Editor Steve Huntingford said: “In adapting the venerable Land Cruiser to suit a more commercial purpose, Toyota has created a true go-anywhere option for businesses. With a load area large enough to suit the needs of most users and the uncompromised capability of an off-road SUV, it is the most versatile option in this class. And it’s backed up by an impressive warranty, too.”

The Land Cruiser Commercial range comprises a single grade – with five doors and a long wheelbase. Its equipment specification carries across many of the advanced technology, comfort and convenience features of the passenger model, together with a comprehensive Toyota Safety Sense package of safety and driving assistance systems.

Highlights include 18-inch alloy wheels, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a power back door with opening window hatch, an auto-dimming rear- view mirror, electronic parking brake and automatic dual-zone air conditioning. The multimedia system includes a nine-inch touchscreen and wireless smartphone integration with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Commercial this year adopted Toyota’s new 2.8-litre diesel 48V electrified powertrain, matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain has permanent all-wheel drive and selectable drive modes to suit the journey. Off-road performance systems include Crawl Control, Hill-start Assist Control and Downhill Assist Control. The driving assistance features include a Blind Spot Monitor, front and rear parking sensors and Safe Exit Assist.

In common with all Toyota Professional light commercial vehicles (and all Toyota passenger vehicles), the Land Cruiser Commercial gives customers peace of mind with warranty cover that extends to 10 years or 100,000 miles, subject to an annual scheduled service at a Toyota authorised workshop.
