2004 Apprentice Of The Year Competition
The 2004 Apprentice of the Year Competition was held at the Toyota Lexus Academy, Nottingham at the end of July for the top Apprentices from the Vehicle Technician, Parts Advisor and Body & Paint Technician programmes.
Contestants were selected for the competition on the basis of their performance during the year. For the first time, Lexus Apprentices were included.
The two day event comprised team building challenges on Thursday evening, followed by a very intensive Friday morning of practical work based skills tests and written exams, and team events at the National Water Sports Centre in the afternoon. The year winners and overall champion from each discipline are as follows:
Body & Paint Technician Champion: Ashley Harvey from Hills Toyota Woodford (Essex)
Vehicle Technician Champion: Richard Docherty from Lexus Leicester
Parts Advisor Champion: Mark Ainsworth from Harry Feeney Toyota Blackpool
At the Awards Dinner, the winners were presented with their prizes by Fred Green, Academy Technical Training Manager and Steve Scofield, Head of Qualifications, IMI.
The competition was, once again, very generously sponsored by Sony UK with the year winners receiving a midi hi-fi system, and the champions receiving a DVD home cinema system. All 24 finalists also received a cash award from the Academy.
