Toyota Gazoo Racing Seal Top Six Results at the Six Hours of Nürburgring

1 September 2015

Toyota Gazoo Racing claimed fifth and sixth place in the Six Hours of Nürburgring in Germany on Sunday as the 2015 World Endurance Championship reached its half-way point.

Anthony Davidson, Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima brought the No1 Toyota TS040 Hybrid home in fifth, ahead of the No2 car driven by Mike Conway, Alex Wurz and Stéphane Sarrazin.

The results keep the reigning champions third in the manufacturers’ standing, 95 points behind leaders Porsche. Conway, Wurz and Sarrazin are jointly the team’s leading contenders in the drivers’ championship, in seventh place.

The race, held less than 60 miles from the team’s Cologne base, took place in front of a 62,000 crowd over the weekend. It was an all-Toyota third row for the event, which was contested on the short and relatively narrow grand prix circuit. This made traffic a constant issue for the LMP1 class cars and during the third hour racing was disrupted by two full-course caution periods due to accident debris.

Both Toyotas ran trouble-free for the length of the race, with Davidson crossing the line a lap ahead of Wurz. Race winners were Porsche, claiming a one-two result.

Davidson said: “We did a perfect job today from our side, there was no more that we could have done. We are all looking forward to the upcoming races to see if we have some better chances, we are not going to give up pushing. We gave everything today and at least it was good fun trying.”

The second half of the season will begin on 19 September with the Six Hours of the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
