Toyota MR2 Drivers Club celebrates its 25th anniversary

Britain’s Toyota MR2 Drivers Club celebrated its 25th anniversary in fitting style on Sunday, with more than 200 cars and their proud owners making the trip to Hatton Country World in Warwickshire for a day of competitions and activities.

The club was founded in April 1990, just as the second-generation model was making its debut in the UK, by Ken and Sandy Kinnersley from Werrington, near Peterborough. Their idea, approved by Toyota GB, proved immediately popular and the club attracted more than 100 prospective members to its first annual meeting in March 1991.

The club has continued to grow and today is represented in seven countries on three continents: the UK, Holland, Spain, Belgium, France, Australia and Canada. With the motto “two’s company,” it organises a busy schedule of social events around the country, with the annual meeting providing a focus for bringing all the members together.

Even though MR2 sales in the UK ended 10 years ago, the car remains hugely popular with enthusiasts. The club welcomes new members, with full details of how to join available at its website at www.mr2dc.com.
