Toyota Gazoo Racing Prepares New Supra for Super GT500 Competition in 2020
Toyota Gazoo Racing will enter the new Toyota Supra in Japan’s premier touring car championship, the Super GT series, from 2020.
The announcement comes as Toyota prepares to host the world debut of the production Toyota GR Supra at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Monday (14 January). The racing proposal returns the legendary Supra name to a competition in which it previously enjoyed great success over a 12-year period, including four championship titles.
Toyota Gazoo Racing has been developing a race car based on the new Supra and unveiled its GR Supra Racing Concept in March last year. Through competition, it aims to further refine the vehicle and gain technical know-how and experience that will be applied to Toyota’s mission to design and engineer ever-better cars for the road.
With Supra set to take to the grid in the Super GT 500 class in 2020, the 2019 season will be the last for the Lexus LC coupe.
