Toyota Kenshiki Forum news
Toyota hosted a Kenshiki forum last week to announce a series of business initiatives that will help develop the future hydrogen society, launch its Kinto brand as a business in Europe and support the United Nation’s Sustainable Development goals.
To help expand the use of clean hydrogen fuel, Toyota is opening a new Fuel Cell Business Group that will work with businesses, governments and organisations to expand the use of its fuel cell technology, not just for cars but for other forms of transport and mobile generators. Read more here.
Kinto Europe is a new Toyota company that will co-ordinate a wide range of mobility services across the region, in-step with Toyota’s transition from vehicle maker to mobility provider. Read more here.
Toyota Motor Europe is adopting a series of measures to promote inclusivity and diversity in its business, to ensure training and skills development for its people and to promote sustainable innovation by supporting technology start-ups. Read more here.
New battery electric SUV
The Kenshiki forum also brought a preview of a new battery electric SUV that Toyota will manufacture on a new e-TNGA platform, designed specifically for future electric vehicles. The mid-size vehicle is being readied for production and further details will be announced during 2021. Read more here.
Four million Yaris
Toyota Motor Manufacturing France has celebrated producing its four millionth Yaris since the start of European production in 2001. Yaris is Toyota’s best-selling model in Europe, accounting for around 22 per cent of its new car sales in the region. Read more here.
Proace City Electric
Toyota is opening another chapter in its zero emission vehicle strategy with the announcement of a battery electric version of its Proace City compact van. Read more here.
New SUVs on the way in 2021
Toyota will add two new electrified SUV models to its UK line-up in 2021. Prices have just been announced for the all-new Highlander Hybrid – the first Highlander model to be sold here – and the new RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid. Read more here.
Champions!
Toyota Gazoo Racing has ended the 2020 season with three world championship titles. In the FIA World Endurance Championship it claimed the manufacturers’ championship and the No7 car crew of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José Maria López shared the drivers’ championship honours. Meanwhile in the World Rally Championship, Sébastien Ogier claimed his seventh title, moving ahead of his Toyota team-mate Elfyn Evans on the final event of the year. Read more here and here.
New Mirai revealed
First details of the all-new Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell car have been revealed, ahead of the saloon’s launch later in 2021. As well as having a much greater zero emission driving range, the new model will also be around 20 per cent cheaper to buy. Read more here.
