Hilux Meets Demands of the Environment Agency
Toyota has secured a solus deal with The Environment Agency to supply both the 4×4 Single and Double Cab versions of its popular Hilux. The Environment Agency is widely recognised as the strongest environmental protection agency in Europe.
The primary function of the Hilux vehicles will be to transport both the Environment Agency staff and essential equipment around the country, enabling them to access rivers and waste sites in the more inaccessible areas of the country.
The Environment Agency established in 1996 regulates many activities and processes that impact upon the environment. This includes the regulation of industrial and business activities that cause, or have the potential to cause, pollution to air, land and water. The Environment Agency also regulates the abstraction and storage of water, the exploitation of freshwater fisheries and the use of certain river navigation. It has major involvement in the construction and maintenance of flood defences and the operation of a flood warning service.
Richard Jones, Regional Transport and Plant Manager commented on the deal: “We decided on a partnership with Toyota due to the impressive capabilities of the Hilux. It is tough enough to meet the demanding workload that The Environment Agency tackles each day. Other factors included its excellent value for money, fuel economy and the very important factor – the percentage of recyclable parts of the vehicle.”
The new Hilux has been able to take advantage of the many advances made in environmental protection since the launch of the previous model. Extensive use has been made of Toyota’s super-olefin polymer (TSOP) material in both interior and exterior components. These specially developed plastics are extremely easy to recycle and can be used many times over in cars and commercial vehicles across the whole Toyota range.
The Hilux is the ideal vehicle for The Environment Agency thanks to its hinged, bumper-level tailgate making loading and unloading easy. Heavy cargo proves no problem either – the Hilux is powerful enough to carry a payload of 1055kgs.
