Toyota GB Supports Pledge for Parity on International Women’s Day

8 March 2016

Business commits to bringing more women into senior management roles

International Women’s Day today (8 March) provides an opportunity to focus on the enduring gender gap and the need to do more to secure equality between men and women worldwide. Toyota (GB) PLC is committed to gender parity and bringing more women into senior management, with Paul Van der Burgh, its President and Managing Director, signing up as a founder member of the Automotive 30% Club.

This group brings together some of the UK’s most influential auto industry figures, all of whom have pledged to have women in 30 per cent of key leadership positions in their business by 2030, and aim for 25 per cent of senior executive roles within the next five years.

Van der Burgh said: “It is astonishing that women are still being denied opportunities to demonstrate and develop their business and leadership skills in senior positions. It is vital that we act now to end the inequality and ensure that women are able to realise their career potential without facing artificial barriers based solely on their gender.

“By making the pledge for parity and supporting the aims of the 30% Club, Toyota GB will be working to make the automotive sector more appealing to women and to recruit more of them into the business. We will provide training and career development opportunities, helping nurture and retain women in the talent pipeline.”

The World Economic Forum predicts that global gender parity could take more than a century to achieve*, in spite of the great contributions women make in all areas of life, including politics, culture, economics, science, learning and social development.
