Toyota Gazoo Racing announce TGR GT Cup 2023 e-Motorsports competition
The Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup (TGR GT Cup) will take place in 2023, on online race featured in Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation®5*1 (PS5™) and PlayStation®4*1 (PS4®).
The TGR GT Cup is a global competition in which the GR line-up, dedicated race machines and other cars participate in competitive racing through the season. The 2023 event – marking TGR’s fifth year of e-Motorsports – will include a collaborative round with Mazda and Subaru, TGR’s partners in Japan’s Super Taikyu endurance touring car/GT series. Seven qualifying rounds will be held online, with the world’s top 24 players going forward to the final.
The opening race features the AE86 Corolla (also known as the Sprinter Trueno and Corolla Levin), a popular car in the Gran Turismo series. The third round will be a virtual version of the Le Mans 24 Hours, which marks its centenary this year. Everyone entering the event will receive a Toyota GR010 Hybrid in its 2023 livery, commemorating the fifth year of TGR’s e-Motorsports activities. Round four will be a virtual GR86/BRZ Cup race, held in partnership with Subaru.
Each qualifying round will feature a league system, according to the drivers’ skill levels: a top-level GT1 League, and additional GR2 and GR3 leagues. Rankings are displayed for each league, making it easier for everyone, including beginners, to take part. Participants are advised to check the opening times shown in Gran Turismo, as these will vary according to league.
Further e-Motorsport activity will include a Bridgestone GT Time Trial U17 by Toyota Gazoo Racing, for participants aged 17 or younger. Details of this competition will be announced at a later date.
