Start of production of the all-new Toyota C-HR

• New Toyota C-HR designed, developed and manufactured in Europe
• 100 per cent electrified model range, including a plug-in hybrid electric version
• European production investment includes Toyota’s first European battery assembly facility

Toyota has started production of the all-new Toyota C-HR, including its first European battery assembly operation.

When first introduced, the Toyota C-HR set a new styling benchmark in the European C-SUV segment with a dramatic, sharp-edged design, closer to the look of sports coupes. The new model, which makes an even more powerful style statement, has been developed and engineered in Europe to meet the needs and preferences of European customers.

The all-new Toyota C-HR will be offered in the UK with three electrified powertrains: 1.8 and 2.0-litre hybrid electric (HEV) models, available to order now, and a 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) version, which will follow in spring 2024.

Manufacturing facilities at Toyota’s plant in Sakarya, Turkey, have benefited from new investment of €308 million (approx. £266.5 million). The operation has become the company’s first European centre for plug-in hybrid vehicle production: the new line has the capacity to assemble 75,000 battery units annually.

Toyota is committed to achieving full carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and is targeting carbon neutrality in all its European manufacturing facilities by 2030. The Toyota C-HR production facility is progressing towards this goal by implementing measures to minimise energy consumption and switching to renewable energy. These include new paint shop technologies which minimise CO₂ emissions, zero-carbon ventilation systems and the use of solar energy.
