New Toyota C-HR Hybrid Insurance: drive electric to save on your renewal premium
As lifestyle choices and driving habits change, it’s right that insurance products evolve as well. It’s in that spirit that the ground-breaking new Toyota C-HR Hybrid Insurance has been introduced.
This new product for the newly launched self-charging Toyota C-HR hybrid electric SUV is the first of its kind to be offered in the UK. It comes with all the established benefits offered by Toyota Motor Insurance, but with the opportunity for private customers to enjoy a discount of up to 10 per cent* on their renewal premium, linked to the miles driven in all-electric EV mode during the policy year.
It sets the scene for the potential introduction of other new products with built-in value features linked to customer driving patterns.
With the customer’s prior agreement, the distance their vehicle covers in EV mode during the year is monitored via the car’s data communication module (DCM). This discreet unit is fitted as standard to all models, so there is no need for an additional “black box” or other device to be fitted.
When the time comes for the policy to be renewed, the EV distance is used to calculate the discount the customer may be eligible for on their renewal premium. This can be up to a maximum of 10 per cent, equivalent to a minimum of 57 per cent of the total mileage monitored having been covered in EV mode.
Customers can monitor their performance using the MyToyota app. This shows in clear graphics the mileage and percentage of driving in EV mode and the discount expected to be available when their Toyota Insurance policy falls for renewal. The policy period dates are also clearly shown.
Jason Milton, CEO Toyota Insurance Service UK, said: “With increasing pressure on personal budgets, customers quite rightly want to be confident they are receiving genuine value for money. The discount opportunity designed-in to our new Toyota C-HR Hybrid Insurance not only offers the potential for savings, it also promotes cleaner, more efficient EV driving. This new offering sets the scene for further innovative products we are developing for future market introduction.”
Toyota’s market leadership in hybrid electric technology, established over a quarter of a century, makes it easier than ever for owners to maximise their car’s EV driving potential. The 1.8 and 2.0-litre hybrid electric powertrains in the all-new Toyota C-HR use fifth generation tech that includes the latest advances in battery design, increasing the all-electric driving capability. Engaging “Eco” mode in the car’s Drive Mode Select system automatically tailors throttle response and operation of the air conditioning system to optimise the EV performance. And, as these are “full hybrid” powertrains, there is also a dedicated EV mode so shorter distances – in town traffic, for example – can be covered without the engine being brought into play.
The discount potential is one of a number of benefits included in the new product. The Toyota C-HR Hybrid Insurance also provides the peace of mind and convenience of a 24-hour emergency claims helpline; the guarantee of Toyota genuine parts** being used for repairs, with work carried out by approved repairers and protecting any existing warranties; and automatic courtesy car cover***, provided by an approved repair centre and with the customer’s insurance cover automatically transferred to the vehicle. In addition, if a claim is made for an accident that is not the customer’s fault and where the driver of the other vehicle is uninsured, there is no loss of no claim discount and no requirement to pay any excess.
