Active Safety Options for Yaris and RAV4

27 March 2007

To provide drivers with the highest possible level of active safety protection, Toyota has introduced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRC) as an option across the complete Yaris range.

It has also made Integrated Active Drive, including VSC and TRC, available as an option for the RAV4 XT3, a system that is provided as standard on all other RAV4 models.

Safety research around the world demonstrates the value of stability control, which automatically adjusts engine power and individual wheel braking when a loss of grip or the onset of a skid is detected. Traction control further aids handling, by preventing wheelspin when pulling away or driving on low-grip surfaces.

Providing VSC and TRC further strengthens Yaris’s exceptional safety performance. All versions already benefit from ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist, plus driver and front passenger airbags. All bar the entry-level T2 grade are further equipped with front side and curtain airbags, plus a driver’s knee airbag. In Euro NCAP testing, Yaris proved among the safest cars in its class with a top five-star rating of adult passenger protection.

The RAV4’s Integrated Active Drive system co-ordinates VSC and TRC with the performance of the Electric Power Steering and Active Torque Control four-wheel drive system to provide secure handling in all conditions. On XT3 models with manual transmission, the new option also brings the benefit of Hill-start Assist Control (HAC); those with an automatic gearbox gain both HAC and Hill Descent Control (HDC).

Option prices (including VAT) are £350 for VSC and TRC on Yaris and £560 for Integrated Active Drive on RAV4 XT3.
