Avensis Verso World Premiere at Geneva Motor Show 2001
Toyota’s all-new people carrier, the Avensis Verso, will make its world debut next week at the Geneva International Motor Show (Tuesday 27 February).
A VERSATILE PACKAGE
Based on an all-new platform, the Avensis Verso combines the interior space and luggage capacity of a mid-size MPV but with the driving, handling and dynamics of a family saloon. The car was designed at Toyota’s European design centre based in Nice, known as ED2.
Avensis Verso has the lowest overall height in the mainstream MPV segment at 1,660mm yet still offers a spacious interior thanks to a low floor height and long wheelbase of 2,825mm. The overall length of Avensis Verso at 4,650mm and width of 1,760mm contribute to a stable and comfortable ride with a low centre of gravity.
The Avensis Verso offers versatile seating and ample storage options and can be specified with five or seven separate seats in up to three rows. The second row of seats can slide, fold, tumble or be removed completely and on the seven-seat model the third row of seats can fold, tumble or be removed. All seats have headrests and three-point seatbelts as standard equipment for improved safety.
DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE
Avensis Verso will be offered with a choice of a 2.0-litre VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) petrol engine, or the latest 2.0-litre common rail, D-4D turbo diesel.
The 2.0-litre petrol engine will deliver a maximum 150 DIN hp (110kW) at 6,000rpm and maximum torque of 192Nm at 4,000rpm. The 2.0-litre D-4D engine will deliver 116 DIN hp (85kW) at 4,000rpm and 250Nm of torque across 1,800 to 3,000rpm. Fuel consumption for the diesel on the combined cycle is a remarkable 43.5mpg.
SAFETY & SECURITY
Avensis Verso will be offered with disc brakes as standard both front and rear with brake assist, computerised anti-lock and electronic brake force distribution.
Driver and passenger SRS airbags are standard equipment, as well as remote control central locking with double locking, alarm system and engine immobiliser.
The Avensis Verso will be on sale in the summer of 2001. More precise specifications, prices and exact on sale date will be available in the near future.
