Aygo Gumball
Toyota supports the stars of Channel 4’s Shipwrecked in the first Student Gumball Rally
The Aygo-ing’s good for star competitors in the first Student Gumball Rally with Toyota backing the participation of nine of the cast from Channel 4’s sun-and-surf reality show, Shipwrecked.
The former desert island-dwellers are being reunited for the rally challenge, sharing the driving duties in a fleet of four dazzle-painted Aygos. Flagged off from Dover Town Hall this Sunday (3 September), they will be among 150 cars and more than 500 students hitting a 1,500-mile, six-day course down to the coast of Croatia.
As one of the top value new car buys for young drivers and with a high fun-to-drive factor, Aygo will be in its element on the event. The backing for the Shipwrecked crews also builds on Aygo’s sponsorship of Channel 4’s T4 youth programming strand.
Shipwrecked’s Sharks and Tigers are setting aside their island team rivalries to join forces on the road and help raise funds for their chosen charity, the Teenage Cancer Trust. Taking part will be Anna Singleton, Rich Biedul, Kev Brotherton, Sam Bush, John Melvin, Laura Pratt, Crawford Anderson, Lucy Ba-kkioui and Chris Brain.
As a rally, not a race, the Student Gumball requires driving skill, pin-point navigation and split-second time-keeping, qualities that might not spring to mind as being part of the typical student’s profile. Out to prove the doubters wrong, the event was fully subscribed within a month, drawing entries from the UK and across the Continent.
