Billy Monger receives Toyota GR Supra for Para Sport challenge to be filmed for Channel 4
Racing driver Billy Monger has taken delivery of a Toyota GR Supra 3.0 Pro sports car, which he’ll be using in a unique para sport challenge filmed by Whisper, for broadcast on Channel 4 in August this year.
Billy is a 21-year old racing driver, who achieved success in the Ginetta Junior and British F4 race series before tragically losing both his legs in a motor-racing accident in 2017. Since then he has made a remarkable return to the sport, lobbying the FIA to let disabled drivers race against able-bodied racers and getting back to winning races in Formula 3. He is also part of Channel 4’s on-screen Formula One team and recently raised over £3million for Comic Relief by completing an Ironman.
The Toyota GR Supra is the fifth generation of Toyota’s legendary sports car and the first to benefit from the engineering skills of Toyota Gazoo Racing – Toyota’s international motorsports arm. Its performance heart is its 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine, producing 335bhp and 500Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 4.3 seconds.
Billy Monger’s Supra has been adapted by Elap, a company that provides bespoke mobility products and solutions. The system fitted to the car allows the driver to operate the accelerator and brake by using a hand lever mounted on the side of the steering wheel.
