Bye Bye Brooksy: John Brooks Heads for the Sun After 30 Years With Toyota
John Brooks, one of the best-known figures in the UK motoring PR business, is calling it a day as the mastermind of the Toyota and Lexus press fleet, taking early retirement to enjoy life in sunnier climes.
Brooksy has been a Toyota GB employee for 30 years, beginning his career as a youthful member of the parts distribution centre team in Crawley. In 1993 he swapped the warehouse for the open road as a press car driver, quickly getting to know the nation’s motoring writers and their foibles.
It was a natural progression for him to take the reins as the press fleet administrator in 1998, responsible for the smooth running of one of the industry’s largest and busiest press car operations. It’s a role in which has prospered with his irrepressible good humour and friendly approach, even when saying “no”.
This Thursday (16 August) Brooksy bids farewell to Toyota and prepares to spend more time at his home in Spain, enjoying his passions of golf, a couple of beers, the rollercoaster fortunes of Spurs and the latest big screen movies.
He said: “It’s been a privilege and I feel very proud to have looked after the press fleet for both Toyota and Lexus for so many years. I’ve visited places and experienced things I would never have been able to do, and drive a vast array of great, quality vehicles.
“Also to have made so many friends and acquaintances throughout the media and the industry will be unforgettable. I’ve worked with a great team and I cannot thank them enough.”
Scott Brownlee, Head of PR and Social, said: “There will only ever be one Brooksy, he has made a great contribution to building successful and lasting relationships with our media friends and we will miss him very much. We are sad to see him go, but wish him every happiness in the years ahead.”
Details of Brooksy’s successor will be announced at a later date. In the meantime all Toyota and Lexus press fleet enquiries can be made through the press office on 01737 367272.
