Celica Joins The Tiger Squadron

Toyota supports the Royal International Air Tattoo

Already renowned as one of the sleekest machines on the road, the Toyota Celica sports coupe is mixing with more elevated company this weekend. A special version of the new Celica GT will join a pack of flying ‘big cats’ in the NATO Tigers Roar 2005 display at the Royal International Air Tattoo on 15-17 July.

The appearance of the specially-liveried sports coupe will form an eye-catching element of Toyota’s support for Britain’s premier air show, taking place at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.

Although we might dream of a sports car that can fly above the traffic, that remains just a dream: the Celica’s four wheels will in fact remain firmly on the ground as part of the show’s principle static display. With its bold leaping tiger paintwork, it will line up alongside equally boldly decorated aeroplanes and helicopters from international air force squadrons that feature a big cat in their crest or title. Visitors to the show will be able to take a close-up look at both the aircraft and the Celica in the dedicated exhibition area.

Toyota is supplying the event with official support vehicles, including a fleet of Serco-sponsored Land Cruisers that will guide taxiing aircraft as ‘follow me’ vehicles and a number of Lexus cars that will be chauffeuring VIP guests. Further Celica and MR2 Roadster models will also be on public display.

And if anyone seeks even more adrenalin than that provided by the aerial action, visitors can swap seats with Jarno Trulli for a driver’s eye-view of grand prix racing on the Panasonic Toyota Racing Formula 1 simulator.
