Entries Open for 2022 Toyota Trophy Competition
Does any Toyota have what it takes to get the better of a GR Yaris? Even though the hot-shot hatchback has won just about every performance car award going, the 2022 Toyota Parallel Pomeroy Trophy will see it taking part in a competition where models of all ages, shapes and sizes have a chance of claiming victory.
Entries are now open for the trophy, a driving challenge designed for owners of Toyota cars of all kinds. The event will take place on 19 February at the world-famous Silverstone race circuit in Northamptonshire.
The competition comprises a series of individual tests. There is no head-to-head racing and the results are determined using an equivalency formula designed by the Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) for its annual Pomeroy Trophy event to give all competitors an equal chance of winning. Toyota’s “parallel” competition has already witnessed giant-killing results with a tiny iQ outperforming all rivals in the 2019 event.
Entries can be made online here.
Scott Brownlee, Toyota (GB) Head of Press and Social, said: “After a year’s enforced break we’re looking forward once again to a fun day with Toyotas of all kinds having a genuine chance of success. The event has proved hugely popular and we hope more owners will be taking part and celebrating the joy of driving that’s central to the Toyota brand.”
Entries cost £35 per person, with all proceeds being donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Toyota’s nominated charity. There are 65 places available, so an early application to take part is recommended; entries close on 12 January 2022. Once places have been filled, unsuccessful applications will be added to a reserve list with the chance to fill any places that become free before the event.
To take part, entrants need to hold a full UK driving licence, which must be produced on the day. All competitors will also need to obtain a Motorsport UK RS Clubman Competition Licence – a free document that can be applied for on the day, or in advance at https://rsclubman.motorsportuk.org. All participating vehicles must be road legal and, if applicable, have a current MoT certificate.
The running of the event will be dependent on any government guidelines or requirements for public gatherings that may be in force at the time.
