GR Yaris extends its award-winning success to the used car market with Car Dealer honour
With a packed trophy cabinet of new car honours to its credit, Toyota’s GR Yaris has collected its first award for its appeal as a used car: the thoroughbred performance hatchback was named Used Performance Car of the Year at the Car Dealer Awards in London last night.
Announcing the win, awards host Mike Brewer said: “Previous winners of this award have been sleek coupes or big-power saloons, but this year’s choice proves incredible performance can come in a much smaller package. I absolutely love this car.”
James Baggott, Car Dealer Editor in Chief, added: “The GR Yaris is a truly special machine. Developed with direct input from the manufacturer’s World Rally Championship team, it’s a rare example of a modern homologation-style hot hatch – built not for mass appeal for pure driving brilliance. That alone gives it a special something on the used market, but factor in Toyota’s reputation for building high quality cars and you have an ultra-desirable used performance car.”
The GR Yaris has regularly been a sell-out success for Toyota since its introduction in 2020. Throughout its lifetime, its essential performance and handling qualities have been honed for even greater driver engagement and rewards, most recently with the introduction of the new Aero Performance model. This benefits from a package of additional aerodynamic features, including a bonnet scoop, variable rear spoiler, lip spoiler, floor undercover and cooling ducts, plus a rally-style vertical handbrake.
Equipped with Toyota’s GR-FOUR all-wheel system and constructed on a bespoke platform, GR Yaris is powered by a turbocharged three-cylinder engine that delivers 276bhp and 390Nm of torque, matched to a six-speed manual sports transmission.
