Honours for Toyota’s top UK retailers
- Ichiban awards for excellence in customer service presented to John Roe Grimsby, Ron Brooks Motor Group in the East Midlands and Burrows Toyota Barnsley
- Steven Eagell Milton Keynes is the UK’s Toyota Retailer of the Year
Toyota has presented awards to its top-performing UK retailers, recognising those who have excelled at both international and national level.
Three businesses have the distinction of receiving Ichiban awards for excellence in customer service from Toyota Motor Europe.
John Roe Toyota Grimsby received the award in the small retailer category. The business was established more than 50 years ago and is a family concern, with the founder’s grandson, Tom Roe, now at the helm as managing director. The company has around 20 employees and more than 100 in its wider group, providing sales, after sales and smart repair services.
Matthew Arliss, Group Operations Manager, commented: “The family aspect of our business is very important to us and our company strapline is “be part of the family” – a message that applies equally to our customers and our staff.”
The medium retailer category winner is Ron Brooks Toyota Ilkeston. The award is a fitting tribute to a business that is marking its 50th year with Toyota in 2022, still operating from its original site. Today it employs around 50 people, providing new and approved used vehicle sales and servicing and repairs. It also has a Toyota-approved body shop.
Mike Lane, Group Operations Director, said: “We are extremely proud of all our colleagues who work hard to deliver a consistent and exceptional customer experience. It’s especially pleasing to win this award for a second time and to do so thanks to the work of both long-standing and new members of staff during challenges and uncertainty of the pandemic.”
Burrows Toyota Barnsley is celebrating its fifth Ichiban award, taking honours in the large retailer category. The business has been in Barnsley since 1999 and currently has a staff of around 50 at its 15,000m2 site, covering private and business sales, servicing repairs and parts and accessory sales. It is also provides Motability services.
Steve Davidson, Burrows Motor Company Regional Director, said: “When we received out third award, I said that this confirmed our belief that a customer-focused team can deliver outstanding results. Two Ichiban awards later, I know that we do a great job for our customers, giving them faith in our site and the work we do, ensuring that they return to us, year after year. I am still immensely proud of the Burrows Toyota Barnsley team.”
Steven Eagell claimed the title of the Best Toyota Group and its Milton Keynes operation the Toyota Retailer of the Year honour in the 2022 Toyota Best Retailer in Town (BRiT) awards. These were among nine category wins for the group.
Steven Eagell, Chief Executive Officer of the group – the UK’s largest Toyota and Lexus retail business – said: “It is the continued hard work, dedication and commitment to outstanding customer service from the whole team that results in us being recognised with these awards. Everyone can be exceptionally proud of the part they have played in this achievement.”
